Women Looking at Men
Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. I want to ask whether it is allowed for women to look at Islamic scholars giving speeches, or to look at vegetable vendors while buying vegetables, or the newsreader who is reading the news, or a political leader on TV giving speeches. I asked many people; some told me it is permissible unless the person has evil thoughts. Others told me it is not permissible if the man is handsome but allowed if he is not. Some say it is not allowed to watch anyone. However, I wondered how we would be able to identify anyone if we did not look at people. I want to know what is right as it is really distressing.
