Flirting with people in the virtual life
Dear Scholars. I am writing you on behalf of a Muslim friend. I am not a Muslima, but I hope you can still help me with my question. I don?t know if you are familiar with online communities like ?facebook.com?. My friend is a very active member there. Facebook offers the possibility of virtually greeting people, waving at them, or also hug them (the facebook-friend then gets the message that he was greeted, waved at or hugged by this person). I know that this young man is normally very strict about his Islamic believe and would not hug women very easily. But on that platform, he becomes very ?flirty?, hugs virtually a lot of his friends and writes things, he would never say in these words outside the virtual world. His doing is not at all sexual or offending. But I am just kind of confused by his behaviour and don?t know how to react to it.So I wondered what you opinions about this are? Is there something like a Fatwa concercing internet use? You scholars seem to be wise and thoughtfull from what I read. It is ok for a young Muslim to flirt in this virtual way with women? Otherwise (I am 100% sure of that) he is a very true believer and would never seek physical contact or premarital relationships with women. I thank you very much and hope you can help me.
