What is the viewpoint of Islam regarding proving paternity through DNA?

As-Salaam `Alaykum. Dear scholars. Is it permissible to consider the DNA test as a legal proof to establish paternity and prove crimes such as Zina? Can the DNA be used as an independent proof? Can it be put in the same category of witnesses? Please answer my queries as this issue has triggered wide debate among our Muslim community.

We would like you to shed light on the case when a husband accuses his wife of committing adultery and thus denies paternity to the child born in their wedlock: is it the husband or the wife's right to ask for a DNA analysis to establish paternity? Could you provide evidence from Shari `ah for what you say in this regard?
