The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “What is correct is that the followers behind the Imam in prayer should not say the takbir aloud as it is only the Imam who should say takbir aloud. However, if every praying Muslim did so, his prayer is not invalidated even if he did not follow the sunnah. Some Muslim scholars consider this as bid`ah while others consider it as away from following the sunnah when the basic ruling is to abide by the prophet’s guidance and sunnah in prayer.
