Sheikh `Abdul-Majeed Subh, a prominent Azharite scholar, states: “The basic requirements of a masjid in Islam is that it is a building that is prepared to lodge Muslims who are coming to perform prayers therein. The dome and minarets are not among the basic requirements of the masjid in Islam. So, the masjid can be a simple building according to the available means and resources. If there are available resources that can help have a big masjid, it will be good. What is important here is that people of your community should discuss the issue in a good atmosphere and to help each others to reach a mutual agreement that takes into considerations the available resources.”
