Engaging in services like massage with a member of the opposite sex can lead to situations and actions that are considered grave sins, such as adultery, in Islam. If a person finds themselves in a situation where this prohibited contact leads to a sexual act, such as masturbation, it is essential to understand the gravity of the action and the clear path to repentance.

The Gravity of the Sin

This act is considered a grave sin. It is not permissible for a person to allow a member of the opposite sex (who is not their spouse or mahram) to perform such a service, let alone engage in a sexual act.

A Muslim is obligated to guard their private parts and not allow anyone to see or touch them, outside of the exceptions defined by Shari`ah. Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an:

“And who guard their private parts, except before their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for they surely are not blameable.” (Al-Mu’minun 23:5-6)

A Path Leading to Adultery

It is important to recognize that such practices are precursors to adultery (zina), which is one of the most heinous sins prohibited in Islam. These actions close the door to virtue and open the door to major transgressions.

Therefore, one must turn to sincere repentance immediately and resolve not to return to such actions or their preliminary causes again.

How to Repent and Purify Oneself

The door to repentance is always open, no matter the transgression. Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Say: ‘O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'” (Az-Zumar: 53)

However, this mercy is contingent on a sincere effort to change. Allah also says:

“Allah accepts the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and repent soon afterwards; to them will Allah turn in mercy: For Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.” (An-Nisa’: 17)

Sincere repentance requires a firm determination not to commit the sin again. Alongside this, a person should actively work to purify themselves and strengthen their faith through practical steps:

  • Be keen on performing prayers regularly and on time.
  • Get more involved in Islamic work and righteous deeds.
  • Focus on attending the Masjid (mosque).
  • Read the Qur’an on a daily basis.
  • Attend Islamic classes to increase beneficial knowledge.
  • Stay away from any company or situation that does not remind one of Allah.
  • Give Sadaqah (charity) to the poor and needy with the sincere intention of purifying oneself and expiating sins.
