Parents should take care of their children and bring them up on the teachings of Islam. It is a good idea for parents to accompany their children in a family summer camp, but parents must be concerned about the contents of the camp in order to protect their children from unwanted activities in the camp.
Dr. Sano Koutoub Moustapha, professor of fiqh and its principles, International Islamic University, Malaysia, states: “It is strongly recommended in Islam that the parents spend some of their time with their beloved children, especially during the summer. Thus, this would help the parents to exchange views and ideas with their children about different issues and matters of their concern. Surely, it is a good idea to reward children with a comprehensive and constructive summer camp.
In this regard, parents should take a friendly part in planning for a summer camp for their children. It is an obligation upon them to be concerned about the contents of the summer camp for their kids in order for them to protect them from unwanted items in the camp.
Having said that, the parents should not interfere in all the details of the camp, meaning their contribution should not be in the form of dictating or deciding for the kids every single thing. They should give them room to decide and choose the contents that are not contradicting Islamic teachings.”
