The prominent Muslim scholar and Da`iyah, Zeinab Mostafa, states: “Islam teaches us to obey and listen to our parents as long as they are not asking us to commit anything that would displease Allah. There is no obedience to anyone at the expense of disobeying Allah. Therefore, we should differentiate between obedience and respect. When our parents do bad deeds, we should never support them, rather we should help them get rid of bad habits.
As the Muslim is forbidden to do zulm or injustice, he or she is forbidden to tolerate it as well. So we are all encouraged defend the rights of victims, even if anyone gets upset because everyone will be judged by Allah who is the Absolute Just and will never treat people unfairly.”
