The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “According to all madhhabs except the Shafi`i school, the person behing the imam should bow down (make ruku`) right after the Imam because the Imam’s recitation is considered recitation for the followers. As for the Sahfi`i madhhab, he should finish quickly the recitation of Al-Fatihah and bow down behind the Imam.”
