One of the main duties upon one is to show kindness towards his parents because Allah Almighty says: (Your Lord has decreed, that you worship none save Him, and (that you show) kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age with you, say not ‘fie’ unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word.) (Al-Isra’ 17: 23)
One should show all kinds of good treatment to one’s parents. Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was once asked about the best deeds, when he said: “Having faith in Allah and His Messenger, then showing dutifulness to one’s parents.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Dr. `Abdul-Fattah `Ashoor, professor of the Qur’anic Exegesis at Al-Azahr University, states: A Muslim is required, as far as Islam is concerned, to be dutiful to his parents and to pay them the gratitude they deserve, even if they are not Muslims.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have stated that the reward for staying besides one’s parents, supporting them and catering for their needs, far exceed the reward of immigration and Jihad.
In the light of the aforementioned evidence, we do advise every Muslim child in this situation to remain with their parents to help them and not to migrate as long as there is no other brothers or sisters to help them instead.
Thus, we advise to remain with parents and to be kind and dutiful towards them. Allah Almighty says: (And We have commended unto man kindness toward parents. His mother bears him with reluctance, and brings him forth with reluctance, and the bearing of him and the weaning of him is thirty months, till, when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! Arouse me that I may give thanks for the favor wherewith You has favored me and my parents, and that I may do right acceptable unto You. And be gracious unto me in the matter of my seed. Lo! I have turned unto You repentant, and lo! I am of those who surrender (unto You)) (Al-Ahqaf 46: 15)
