The prominent Muslim scholar and Da`iyah, Zeinab Mostafa, states: “First of all, these devices do not take the same ruling that is applicable to the Qur’an. Therefore, it is allowed to read the Qur’an and to touch these devices while menstruating. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling of the woman reading Qur’an while having her monthly period, and the most correct view is that it is allowed. Some other scholars went far to allow women touching the Qur’an, based on some reports like the one in which it is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his wife to give him the sahifah (manuscript) which contained some verses from the Qur’an from the masjid, and when informing him of her menstruation, he commented: “your menstrual cycle is beyond your control.”
