Zeinab Al-`Alawani, Instructor of Fiqh and Islamic Studies, Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences, states the following: “Marriage contract gives the man and woman certain basic rights for which they are entitled to. If any of the married couple wants to give up any of his or her rights willingly, and this right does not affect the relationship negatively, it is allowed, even though it is not ideal or realistic. Thus, if a woman is financially stable and she has her house and she is mainly looking for a company, and therefore she wants to free her husband from the responsibilities of things like “housing, finance and staying overnight every night”, then it is her right.”
