The prominent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, Director and Imam of Al-Falah Islamic Center, Oakville, Ontario, Canada, states: “First of all, the mahr is counted as part of inheritance unless it was paid to the wife and it got mixed with her property. Mahr is an obligation between the husband and wife, and in case the husband passes away without paying it, the wife may forgive him so that he does not get questioned about. If both the husband and wife die before settling the mahr issue, the imam may think of doing some charity on their behalf, and don’t worry about the issue of the mahr.”
