Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, President of the Fiqh Council of North America, states: “Non-mahram men and women can meet and talk to each other for social and business needs as long as they observe some basic principles of haya’ (modesty) in Islam. They are not supposed to indulge in intimate talks. A single male and a single female also should avoid meeting in total seclusion (khlwah ).”
