The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “There is no specific du`aa’ to be said when slaughtering the sacrificial animal. What is obligatory is make tasmiyah (i.e. mention the name of Allah) and to follow the Islamic way of slaughtering that is defined by Shari`ah. The sunnah is that the owner of the sacrificial animal is the one who slaughters it. However, if he cannot, then there is nothing wrong to assign someone else whether he is a scholar or a professional slaughterer if he would mention the name of Allah and follows the Islamic way of slaughtering.”
