Sheikh Muhammad Nur Abdullah, President of the ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) and member of the Fiqh Council of North America, states: “Apostasy means to disbelieve or declare your rejection of Islamic beliefs. Therefore, if a muslim man announced his rejection to Islamic beliefs, then he is not considered a Muslim, hence the nikah is nullified, and in order to reunite with his wife in case of tawbah and conversion, then they will need a new contract.”
