The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “Almighty Allah commanded the attendants (the angels and Iblees) to prostrate for Adam (peace be upon him) but Iblees disobeyed Almighty Allah. The style of Allah’s address (khitab ) to attendants is called khitab At-Taghlib (i.e. addressing all attendants in the name of the vast majority). Think if there are millions of angels and only one jinni and they are all addressed to prostrate; Almighty Allah’s address was directed to all attendants and Iblees was in the middle of angels whose exact number is known only to Allah. This style of address is very similar to saying: ‘I went with my family to the United Arab Emirates on vacation.’ You may say that although you may have taken a servant or maid with you in the vacation. Finally, we ask Allah Almighty to guide you and us all to the right path.”
