Sheikh `Abdul-Majeed Subh, a prominent Azharite scholar, states: “As Muslims, it is sufficient for us to read Almighty Allah’s saying, “(Thus it was) till, when Our commandment came to pass and the oven gushed forth water, We said: Load therein two of every kind, a pair (the male and female)…” (Hud 11: 40) “Every kind” or kullin refers to the proper meaning in which it is mentioned as Almighty Allah says regarding the wind sent to the people of `Aad, “Destroying all things by commandment of its Lord.” (Al-Ahqaf: 25)
“All things” here do not refer to all things in existence. So, “all things” should be interpreted in its context and according to `Urf (custom) of people.
So, it may refer to every pair that is known to Prophet Noah and his companions.
We cannot conduct a comprehensive historical research regarding this story because there are some animals became extinct such as Dinosaurs and others came to existence after Noah (peace and blessings be upon him). So, conducting a comprehensive study regarding the story is useless and futile and its implementation in a scientific and comprehensive way cannot be achieved.
However, it is worth mentioning that there are archeological researches conducted in Iraq proving what is mentioned in the Qur’an regarding the flood and this is sufficient for us. Going into all details is not possible and is not necessary for faith or for life.
