Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada , states: “If while a student is in school and his/her class interferes with the time of Zhuhr or `Asr, such student may make use of the concession of jam` or combining the two Prayers. They may pray both Prayers either at the time of Zhuhr or at the time of `Asr. So, if it is Zhur a student is missing for example, he/she should make the intention that he/she will pray Zhuhr at the time of `Asr. We are only allowed to do this, if we are prevented from praying Zhuhr at the appointed time because of class or other urgent matter. We should never do so in ordinary circumstances.“
