Dr. `Abdur-Rahman Al-Barr, professor of Hadith and its sciences at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, states: “This saying is not an authentic hadith even if it may be reiterated by some Muslims as a famous story but in fact it is not there in any of the books of hadith. However, it was related that Umm Jamil, the wife of Abu Lahab, used to cast rubbish in front of the door of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and this was in Makkah and she did not convert to Islam.
