Dr. Salah Sultan, President of the American Center for Islamic Research, Columbus, Ohio , and Member of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, states: “There are two opinions as to whether the female ejaculation (seminal discharge) is najis or not. One group of scholars say that it is not, supporting their view with the fact that is part of the person and from its humans are created. They also argue for the purity of the semen by quoting the report that `Ai’shah, may Allah be pleased with her, used to wipe off the clothes in which she found the Prophet’s semen after they had dried. Had it been impure, she would not have wiped it off, she would have washed it.
The second group of scholars argue that semen is like any other secretions such as urine and the like, and it is therefore impure.
However, the strong argument goes for the purity of the semen or the seminal discharge and not for the impurity. This does not mean that the person does not seek extra purification or wash what he or she finds disgusting, but this is a different issue.”
