Both men and women should be clean and pure when standing in Prayer. Purification is an essential condition of the validity of Prayer. As for the natural discharge that women experience, if it is normal and is not the result of sexual arousal due to flirting, contemplation of sexual activity, or foreplay, and the like, then it needs not be washed off before the woman performs wudu’.
Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada states: “If such discharge is normal and is not the result of sexual arousal due to flirting, contemplation of sexual activity or foreplay, etc., then they need not wash themselves before performing wudu’. If, on the other hand, it is due to sexual arousal, then they must wash their private parts before making wudu’. I must rush to add that in case of orgasm or sexual intercourse with or without orgasm, it necessitates complete ghusl (ritual cleansing of the body). In such cases washing the private parts alone would not be sufficient, as one would certainly need to perform ghusl. In the case of normal discharge that you have described above there is no need for washing or bathing.”
Moreover, the prominent Muslim scholar and da`iyahZeinab Mustafa adds: “It is clear that we have to perform wudu’ before prayer, and every woman has those natural secretions other than urine, blood, or sexually induced fluids. You have to perform wudu’ in case of urine and vaginal secretions resulting from sexual arousal or orgasm fluids, and you have to make ghusl upon orgasm or intercourse (with or without orgasm), but as for natural secretions that many women get, you don’t have to renew your wudu’ for each prayer.”
