The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “The basic meaning of jam` (combining between Prayers) is that there is no delay between the two combined Prayers. What may be accepted as a delay is tasbih (glorifying Allah), istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness), or renewing wudu’ in case it is broken or an urgent or important thing happened and after doing these things one comes back directly to Prayer.
