Following the exact wordings of the Qur’an
Assalamu alaikum I'm struggling to understand how best to fully submit to our creator. To what extent should we literally follow the exact wording of the Qur'an, and to what extent should we look at the meaning and circumstance behind a revelation and try to act according to the spirit of it? There are so many opinions and arguments about some elements of our faith I get lost. Some opinions I read seem blatantly unjust and feel heavy on my heart - but who am I to judge?Let me give an example; the famous ruling that a man's testimony is worth 2 of a womans. To me this was designed to protect women who at the time had little understanding of such business/legal proceedings and would have been intimidated/taken advantage of. But today many do have this knowledge and it would be discrimatory to say their testimony is only worth half a mans, and clearly unjust. If we were to follow each word of the Qur'an literally we would still be keeping slaves, killing unbelievers and treating women as property. How do we deal with such changes in circumstance to 1400 years ago but still remain faith to Allah's intention? The scholars today disagree so often.
