Assalam AlaikomI am working as a manager for an Islamic organisation in London and I’ve received this question: “I am 85 years old and I have 3 sons and 1 daughter. I own two houses evaluated to £.500.000 each, and cash amount of £.500.000. I want to donate the two houses to an Islamic charity and leave the cash money for my children. Can I do that? If no, what the limitation I can spend of my wealth for charity?” What is the Fatwa Jazakom Allah Khayran?

A Father Taking from his Child’s Wealth

Dear scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. According to a hadith about the father’s rights over his child, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You and your wealth belong to your father.” Does this apply to daughters who work and earn a good salary? Can her father take from her wealth if her father is not in any real need, and she is under his care? Jazakum Allah khayran.
