Oath of Citizenship: Prohibited for Muslims?
alslam alikum wa rahmat allah I am a muslim indevedual living in Canada as a permanent resident, and very soon I will be required to take the Oath of citienship in order for me to become a Canadian sitizene. The Oath reads as follows:(I swear(or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Cnadian Citizen.) According to the rules in Canada to become a canadian citizen you will be required to repeat this Oath after the presiding officer. My concern is how do you see this oath from islamic point of view, and am I ,as a muslim indevedual, allowed to repeat this oath?I noticed that many Muslim go to the ceremony, raise thier hands, but they don't repeat the oath after the presiding officer, they either keep silent, or saying differnt words instead. Some of them, however, take the Holy Quran, raise it, and repeat on the part that reads:(.... I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and Fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen.) We nees a clear (fatwa) in this issue which concerns ,if not all, most Muslims in Canada . Jazakum Allah Khair
