Is signing the divorce papers counted as divorce
Assalamualikum My question is about marriage. You may need some back ground history: Got married(arranged) in 1995 and found out about his previous marriage and kid after two and half year later. After that i got sick, and tried to take everything on me, but didn't work. In the mean time I helped him to get his daughter's custody and everything. Between us things got worse, and i have desided to live separatly (more than five years). In between this time, he has prepared a divorce letter for me and i signed that on May,'03.(I have got physically and mentally very sick in this battle).How ever, he has not submitted that to the court(because he didn't what to let me go). I wanted divorce because I couldn't have physical relationship with him and there is no reason keeping him from getting married again.after all these, he still could not let me go. My question is: are we still married according to Islam? Eventhough I don't/didn't feel any thing towards him? I have given him nece ssary freedom to get married again; will I be responsible for not sleeping with him?I mean am i doing any sin? Please let me know what are my options at this point?thank you,
