Why Do we Have Different Interpretations in One Religion?
Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. In today's Muslim world, there is a wide range of interpretations of Islam. We see both what could be considered "moderate" and "extreme" implementations of Islam around the world. In the eyes of many non-Muslims I know, this range of views is so extensive, and leads to the idea that Islam and the Qur'an are open to interpretation. For example, in some communities women are forced to cover their entire bodies and are unfortunately treated badly, whereas in other communities, women are seemingly treated closer to what the Qur'an asks of us, and as equals. Another example is the Taliban and their very "extreme" interpretations of the Qur'an that led to many hostile beliefs and actions against Islam and Muslims. Why there are so many views? Do you think that this idea is highly exaggerated, owing to how we view our world through the media? Jazakum Allahu Khayran .
