Retaliation in Islam
I am a Muslim who firmly believes in the fairness of the Islamic justice system. I understand the translation and the meaning of verse 178 of surat al-Baqarah, but I want to know how it applies today. For instance, when a man kills a slave or a free man, does the judge give ANY SLAVE OR ANY FREE MAN from the killer's tribe to be killed in retaliation?1) Who chooses the ones to be killed in retaliation?2) On what grounds is the choice made? Please give me a thorough explanation that I can present to those who do not believe in the fairness of the Islamic justice system.
