Returning to Islam after Apostasy: How to Repent?
Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. I committed a very grave sin in the past where I converted to Christianity because I was misled. Now I wish to return and stay forever with Almighty Allah. I wish to know if Almighty Allah will forgive me if I repent, and how I should repent. Should I pray, declare the Shahadah, do this during one of the five daily Prayers? Please enlighten me regarding these points. Also, if Almighty Allah accepts my repentance, will He look at me differently from other Muslims because of the terrible sin I committed? Will He hold it against me on the Day of Judgment? Thank you, may Allah always be pleased with you.
