The Prophet’s reading of the Qur’an, while some verses say he cannot read or write
salamalaikum,I have a question about the revelation of the quran. The prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) didn't know to read or write. When the message was first given to him by Jibreel, was he asked to recite it in order to remember it? If this is right then why does it say in the quran (and i am paraphrasing REALLY badly....) "read in the name of your lord..." . Why is the word READ used? surely it should be "recite in the name of your lord" Or is this a mistranslation into english??? (and maybe a warning to us to learn arabic?).
