Eating or Using Pork Gelatin
"Asalaam Alaikum! My question pertains to pork gelatin. This is a NEW QUESTION and a NEW SUBJECT pertaining to pork gelatin.I REALIZE that your fatwa bank has question about pork, but they do NOT deal with this new bit of inforamtion. thank you.In recent years, there has been some research and now some Fatwas from Salafi scholars saing that gelatin derived from pork is now concidered HALAL, because the CHEMICALS in the gelatin has been altered so much that it is no longer concidered to be pork. We can reverse this thinking and compare it to wine. Just as fruit is halal, once it goes through a certain chemical change to and becomes wine then that new product (the wine) is HARAM. The scholars are saying that pork is haram, but it goes through such chemical changes to make it a gelatin that the new product (the gelatin) is halal. Similar to if a pig died under a tree and it's body fertilized the tree, and the tree grew fruits that are halal to eat. 1) have you heard of these fatwas? 2) what do you think?
