Meaning of “a righteous Muslim does everything with the sole intention of pleasing Allah alone”
I am confused about the following statement: "a righteous Muslim does everything with the sole intention of pleasing Allah alone." For example, I am studying to become a doctor because the career excites me, and while I know that saving lives or improving the quality of life for my fellow humans is pleasing to Allah, my biggest motivators are my passion for the field, the respect, the money, and the increased probability of attracting a good wife. So in addition to pleasing Allah, I desire to please myself. If Allah created us in the best of molds and made no mistakes in his creation, why would he want us to rebel against these innate and natural desires he placed in us? As such, how can one do everything ONLY to please Allah?
