orphans

One of my maternal uncles passed away and he had six children. Can I sponsor one of his children or does sponsorship of orphans not apply to relatives? If it is permissible to sponsor him, will this sponsorship be regarded as valid, as I am in one country and they are in another country? Will it be sufficient for me to send a sum of money each month as well as taking gifts to them when I visit once a year during my annual leave? Can the money I send be given in two installments each year?

Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. I have friend whose mother brought an orphan to their home when she was 6 months old; now the orphan is 9. My friend treats this orphan very badly. I have tried numerous times to tell her that what she is doing is haram, but she never listens to me or her mother. She tells me that since she is the only person who takes care of this orphan, and buys for her whatever she wants, “I am free to do what I want." Please give me some examples from the Qur’an concerning treatment of orphans. Jazakum Allah khayran.

Can we make specific amounts of money (shares in the business) as waqf or Islamic endowment, to be used in different halal businesses, and the profit generated from that is used for orphans, well digging, or other similar projects?
