non-essential

Salamualaikum! I was wondering if it is ok to buy things that are non-essential (things other than food, etc.) if I don't have to pay my college loans until after college when I will have a job inshaallah. I would like to buy a new mp3 player to listen to Qur'an, etc. with money I have from a part time job, is this ok??
