Lesbianism

As-Salamu `alaykum! I am aware that Islam clearly states the penalty for sodomy, which is death. But I’m not very clear on exact penalty for lesbianism. Is there any hadith or verse in the Qur'an related to the subject?

As-Salamu `alaykum! As homosexuality has become a phenomenon widespread in the world, not only in the West, we’d like to know what Islam says on this issue. Jazakumullah Khayran!

In a recent TV show, some lesbians and gays appeared and the announcer said that we should show some more respect to the feelings and behavior of others. He further commented that we should know how to live together and accept others. Myself, I was stunned by such words and could not utter a word. Please enlighten me on Islam’s stance and reply to such deviation.
