Procedures of Khul` in Non-Muslim Countries
A dispute occurred between me and my husband, after which I went to one of the Islamic centers in New Zealand (where we live). The imam of the center summoned my husband but he refused to appear before him. Then the center gave me a document that said the khul` had taken place. Has khul` taken place or is the marriage still valid? What can a Muslim woman who hates her husband do? Will she be forced to live in misery only because there are no Islamic legal courts in Western countries? How can she get rid of a husband who is making her life miserable and w ith whom she does not want to live any longer?
