khilafah

Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. I need to know that in Islam we had so many fitnahs over fighting for 'who should be next khalifah'. Can you please state reference from Quran and hadith on how important it is to chose a Khalifah for ummah and what methods should be observed. jazakAllah

Assalamu `Alaykum! I would like to know that is it an obligation to work to re-establish the Khilafah? How can this be achieved and how can we get the Khilafah? Please can you help?
