Should we Have Different Interpretations When the Qur’an is One?
Respected scholard, assalamu-alia kum.My question relates to the idea that in today's Muslim world, there seems to be a range of interpretations of the Islamic religion.We see both what could be considered "moderate" and "extreme" implementations of Islam around the world. In the eyes of many non-Muslims I know, this range of views is extensive, and leads to the idea that Islam and the Quran is open to interpretation.For example, we see in some communities women are forced to cover their entire bodies, and are unfortunately treated badly. Whereas in other communities, women are treated closer to what the Quran asks of us, and as equals.Another example of course is the Taliban, and their very "extreme" interpretations of the Quran, leading to many well known beliefs which most people would say acts against Islam.Why is it there appears to be such a range of views? Or is it your opinion this idea is highly exagerated, owing to how we view our world through the media?Thank you, and peace be with you.Odai.
