Reading People’s E-mails without Their Knowledge

As-Salamu `alaykum. Could you tell me how bad it is to read someone's e-mail without him knowing? I'm trying to stop, but I want something to scare me so I could really stop. Jazak Allah khair.

Marriage through E-Mail

Dear Sheikh, As-Salamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh. Now, modern means of communication have made things much more easier. Then, I'd like to know whether it's allowed to make Nikah (marriage ) via the e-mail or not. Jazakum Allah khayran.
