As-Salamu `alaykum! I heard that Shari`ah disallows keeping dogs without valid reasons? Does science support Shari`ah in this regard?

As-Salamu `alaykum! My children are due to go on a school visit to a farmyard where I expect them to get acquainted with all the farm animals. I am concerned that they will be introduced to pigs. I know that they are haram (unlawful) to eat; but is it permissible to touch them?

Asalamu 3alaikom, i read your fatwa regarding owning a dog and iunderstand perfectly but to be honest, i've been dreaming about owning a dog for a lot of reasons like protection and help but the main reason is because i really love this animal. is it haram to own them even if i took care of their hygiene? if not, is it Haram too to play with them if i dont own them?
