The Occurrence of Earthquakes in Mountainous Places
Salaam. I am confused about some verses in Quran regarding earth and Mountains. In one verse in Surah 21 Verse 31 it says "And We have set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with them, and We have made therein broad highways (between mountains) for them to pass through: that they may receive Guidance." Does this verse not indicate towards a flat earth and that mountains put weight on this flat earth so it doesnt move? Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir explains that this verse indeed means that mountains put weight on earth so it does not shake when humans move on it. This verse has nothing to do with earthquakes as earthquakes do occur in places where there are mountains. Can you please explain this verse. Thanks
