Are We Allowed to Use the Abbreviation “A.D.”?
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. What about the abbreviation “A.D.” that is used in referring to events taking place after the birth of Jesus? In fact, it is an abbreviation for anno domini, which means “in the year of our Lord.” Do you think we Muslims should keep using this abbreviation while it implies our confession to the divinity of Jesus? Or should we avoid it and suggest another abbreviation like A.C. (after Christ) or the like? Jazakum Allah khayran.
