As-Salaam `Alaykum wa Rahmatallahu wa Barakatuh! My question is a technical one. My friend is a taxi driver and he illegally touts for fares at the airport. Another issue is that other cab drivers are waiting genuinely in a queue and he picks and chooses the fares he wants, while the drivers waiting in the queue have to accept wherever the passenger wants to go. My friend is not sure whether what he is doing is haram or not. What should I say to my friend? notes: I told him it is Haram, but he told me a sheikh told him it was OK. He did not tell me which sheikh gave him this advice. I am also assuming that he told this sheikh that other cab drivers were doing this as well. I am concerned for my friend because he establishes regular prayer and I want him to earn Halal money.
