Birthday

Dear scholar, Asalam ua laikum.I would like to ask whether it is permissible to attend birthday parties as I recently heard that attnding or having one, would be like doing what the pagans of Makkah did during their birthdays.Thank You

Some people say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted on Monday because that was the day on which he was born, and therefore, he used to celebrate his birthday in this way. Can a rule be derived from this, saying that birthdays can be celebrated by fasting?

There is much controversy about celebrating the Prophet's birthday, and some Muslims say that showing joy and happiness is an innovation or bid`ah.
