birth control

Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. What does Islam say about birth control? Is it true that sex cannot be used for pleasure and only for reproduction? I was under the impression that this view exists only in Christianity. Please give references from the Qur’an and Hadith. Jazakum Allah khayran.

Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. I have been on birth control pills for almost a year now. My husband and I are not yet financially stable to have a child, and I am still attending school. Is there a certain amount of time a woman is allowed to be on birth control pills? Jazakum Allah khayran.
