Alcohol in Islam

Is Smoking Analogous to Khamr in All Rulings?

Assalam walaikum and jazzakum Allahu khair for your time and effort to inform and guide our brothers and sisters to the nearest path towards Allah(swt)as for my question...i am and have been somewhat confused lately, insha Allah you might be able to help with my opinions, wether backing them up, or correcting them if you see any faults in the logic...i understand this site is already biased against smoking, but insha Allah keep an open mind as ive been tryin to do...i understand the scholars have ruled smoking tabacco to be haram as it hurts the body which Allah has entrusted to us...now my question is as follows...Can smoking tabacco be classified as an intoxicant such as alcohol? i have found few to no sheikh who will take the side that marijuana is not a drug, drugs to my knowledge are ruled as intoxicants like alcohol...and reading the hadith from The Prophet (SWS) said: "If a large amount of anything causes intoxication, a small amount of it is prohibited." [Sunan Abu Dawood, #3673]Messenger of Allah (SWS) said, "Every intoxicant is khamr (wine) and every intoxicant is haraam (unlawful). Whosoever drinks wine in this world and dies whilst consumed in it and does not repent will not drink it in the next world." (Muslim)I understand this to mean also, 1 beer may not get you drunk but if 1 whiskey gets you drunk, the beer is haram also...as well as...1 sip may not get you drunk but if drinking the glass will, the sip is harm also...basically to fit the analogy of the intoxication caused by a cigarette to that of a joint of marijuana...in conclusion to say, that the purposeful ingestion or inhalation of a controlled intoxicant is the same wether the effect be small or great...the high produced from tabacco is small(for some much smaller than for others, but none the less a high), and that of marijuana being greater...Agreeing that tabacco is a high producing drug like marijuana, entering the alcohol and other such as intoxicant categorization...it would also imply that the user would suffer its accompanying penalties:Prophet Muhammad(SWS) said,"If anyone drinks wine Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he repeats the offence Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he again repeats the offence Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he repeats it a fourth time Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, and if he repents Allah will not forgive him, but will give him to drink of the river of the fluid flowing from the inhabitants of Hell." - Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi #3643, narrated Abdullah ibn UmarIn Saheeh al-Bukhaari (2295) and Saheeh Muslim (86) it is narratedthat Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "No one who commits zina is a believer at the moment when he is committing zina, and no one who drinks wine is a believer at the m oment when he is drinking it, and no thief is a believer at the moment when he is stealing, andno robber is a believer at the moment when he is robbing and the people are looking on."Now based on the presented ahadith...i am under the impression that smoking a cigarette of tabacco (hookah, sheesha) is the same as drinking a glass of beer...if so, i feel our Ummah has an enormous problem due to the greatly extended use and acceptance of tabacco in muslim society and thus the invalidation of the Salat of so many brothers and sisters...I am wondering why i have been able to find a correlation amongst these things and the Shayukh have not, and thus have not taken the appropriate stance against tabacco in the Ummah as they have with marijuana and other drugs...Important Points: The Prophet (SWS) never smoked, and neither have any of the Sahabahookah, Arguileh, Sheesha, or as youd like to call it, originated in india, passed through iran and became an Ottoman (Turkish) custom, and was introduced in Arab countries in the last 2 centuries...Am i Wrong? id appreciate feedback very much, jazzakum Allahu khair...Assalam Walaikum ya sheikh
