The prominent Muslim scholar and Da`iyah, Zeinab Mostafa, states: “Definitely, Muslim women, both in the past and in the present, have played a significant role in the society.
As for women appearing on stages, lecturing, debating, participating in educational forums and discussions, there is no harm at all as long as the following guidelines are fulfilled:
1. that no khalwah is there between the man and woman.
2. that women do not speak in such an attractive way as to seduce the other gender.
3. that their participation is beneficial for the community and humanity at large.
4. that women abide by the Islamic dress code.
As for working in the cinema, acting, as a scenarist or a director, it is only permissible with the same aforementioned guidelines [which means that if any of the above mentioned guidelines is violated, then it becomes haram].
As for singing and dancing, they are only allowed in female gatherings as long as they are decent, lyrics are good and valuable and the performance is not in contrast with Islamic teachings.“
