The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “These are theoretical medical guidelines and not facts because there are successive generations who enjoyed good health although the birth spacing among children was less than three years. So, what some doctors may say regarding birth spacing is theoretical guidelines but not scientific facts to talk about. Yes, it may have a percentage of right, but it is not a fact that we can give a general ruling of permissibility or impermissibility regarding all cases.”
Given the above, we’d like to add that if there is a given case regarding whom reliable specialist doctors said that there must be a birth spacing of three or more years to avoid a certain considerable harm on the woman’s health or the baby’s health, then a lady must abide by these guidelines.
