Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states: “Islam teaches to pray only for those who have faith; we are not allowed to pray for those who have chosen to reject God and died that state.
If, however, one’s parent had faith in God and have done some good we may pray for them as we would pray for everyone who has faith: You can say: O Allah, forgive all those who have died in faith; let Allah decide whether he is among those who had faith. As for the sin of suicide, it is indeed grave. However, let God alone judge such person.
Pray to Allah to grant you consolation.”
